United States: Wildfires are causing air quality alerts which in turn evacuation orders in parts of the western United States and Canada also. Smoke and haze have been spread across California, Oregon, Arizona, Washington, and other parts of the states.
Amount of Wildfires
As of Wednesday, there are like 79 large wildfires which have burned over 1.4 million acres in the U.S. Evacuation orders are in place for 15 fires in the proper regions of Northwest however in
some parts of Canada, there are almost about 430 active wildfires in British Columbia and 177 in Alberta, leading to evacuations of up to 25,000 people in the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park.
As reported by HealthDay, Air quality alerts and advisories have been issued in the many parts of the Western United States.
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued air quality alerts for the eastern counties of Harney, Malheur, Grant, Baker and Morrow until further notice.
In Idaho, air quality advisories were sent out to the central counties of Ada, Canyon, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington.
In north side of the Central Washington, the Colville Reservation, all of Chelan County, plus the Methow Valley down to Brewster in Okanogan County were under air quality alerts until further notice.
Last but not least, Canadian authorities issued and air quality advisory for Calgary, Alberta due to the wildfire smoke.
Safety Measures for Residents
Just to stay safe people should start by learning about the air quality conditions and the forecasts in their area.
Those with an air conditioning system should change the filters often with the high efficiency filters being the most effective at removing the smoke particles reported by AP and there are some portable purifiers which also gonna help.
Though during the time of unhealthy air people should stay indoor with the windows and the doors closed and if you must be outside a respirator mask such as an N-95 or p-100 can offer some protection the AP reported.
Children and old age people would be more sensitive to unhealthy air.
